Who We Are

My favorite poet Anais Nin said, “What I don’t love, I overlook.”

While I sometimes apply that to daily life in general, I routinely apply it to home renovation. I think with few exceptions, most homes do have “good bones” and many just need someone to highlight the beauty and camouflage the flaws.  Finding a home that has been overlooked as being too old, too awkward or just too much work or expense to make beautiful is what I love about home renovation and design.  It’s amazing how changing a few elements in a home can transform the space and make the entire feel of the home renewed.  As a result, a home that was once a nightmare can become a dream home.

When I found my first flip home, I was excited to see how I could take what seemed impossible - taking a very dysfunctional and awkward kitchen (see projects) and making it a place where people would love to not only cook but also entertain their family and friends.  That first flip home sold in one day, so I think the plan worked.

Before I found my passion for remodeling homes, I studied theatrical makeup for television.  While it seems like beauty makeup and home makeovers are very different careers, they share a fundamental similarity - makeup for a person applies the same artistic approach as home remodeling and renovation—that is, to camouflage the flaws and highlight the beauty.
