Rimforest Mountain Chic
The Project: This was originally a very small 1930s cabin. The upper level originally had just a living area, a very small and dysfunctional kitchen with no cabinets and one bedroom. When additional space was added, a bulky support beam sat in the middle of the room which obstructed the flow and view. When the lower level was turned into another living space, the wall heater was left hanging on the stairway wall making a narrow and awkward passage downstairs.
The Plan: Remove the load bearing beam in the living room to open up the space. Create a functional kitchen with floating shelves to create a feeling of more space. Add a kitchen island with barstools to marry the space between the living room and the kitchen. Open up the stairway for easy flow to the lower level. Create a walk-in pantry from an unused utility closet.
The Design: Add a new support beam to open up the living room space. Update the kitchen and bathrooms. Add new laminate flooring throughout for an open flow floorplan.
The Result: Created an open flow interior by using modern design elements and paint the home’s exterior utilizing color of the year Iron Ore to create a modern mountain chic home.
